Good Shepherd Family,
Happy New Year!
As we say goodbye to 2020 and reflect on the challenges, hardships, and, yes, even the joy it brought, I encourage you to remember the victory we have in Jesus. I know this past year was unlike anything most of us have ever seen. One that opened our eyes to the reality that this world is flawed and broken because of sin. However, it was also a year we can joyfully acknowledge that God was with us every step of the way. We can celebrate His faithfulness. We can rejoice in the hope He gives us through faith in our Savior. We can trust in an everlasting God who is in control and gives us a firm foundation to stand on in the midst of whatever happens around us.
With that, I know many of you are wondering about the plan for Sunday worship entering 2021. In consultation with our Elders, I wanted to inform you that we have come up with a 3-phase plan to re-open the church for worship. This plan is subject to change as we closely monitor COVID-19 cases and infection rates in our community and congregation. However, we believe it best to make plans and modify them if needed.
3 Phase Plan to open Good Shepherd for worship:
- The first phase of this plan is to remain ONLINE-ONLY through Sunday, January 10th. This initial phase will allow our elders and pastoral staff to see how the infection rate of COVID-19 is within our community and congregation. The elders and pastoral staff will then meet again on Tuesday, January 12th, to determine if Sunday, January 17th is a viable date for re-opening for worship. These dates allow for time to pass after the holidays to see if any more exposures or positive tests to the virus have occurred.
- The second phase of the plan would be to open for worship on Sunday, January 17th. If this happens, we will only have one worship offered both in-person and online at 10:00 am. This schedule will continue through the remaining Sundays in the month of January.
- Assuming the first two phases happen with little to no setbacks, we intend to resume our regular worship schedule the first Sunday in February (02/07/2021). This would include an 8:00 am Classic Worship, and a 10:30 am Contemporary Worship.
*** This phase will not include Sunday School for any age on campus. Our hope is to get through these first three phases with no setbacks and will then be able to have Sunday School again soon after. Seth Illich (our DCE) is working with our volunteers to be ready for whenever the time comes where we can once again have our education hour on Sunday mornings.
By now, we are all aware of how plans can change and the need to be flexible. However, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and understanding as we navigate how to re-open and do so in a way that we believe protects our church family’s health and wellness. I’m excited at the prospect of returning to some normalcy and having two beautiful worship styles but, more importantly, being together once again to worship our Lord and Savior!
